| Bio: | I decided that I wanted to make an icon-journal. So there. However, what with all the LJ-issues, I'm trying not to start any new journals there. Hence, here. Hi! I'm Kate. I have two other insanejournals - ![[info]](http://www.insanejournal.com/img/userinfo.gif){kind=small} akatari and silvia (in which I have yet to post, but which will shortly contain everything that my regular livejournals had, as soon as I figure out how the stupid transfer-thing works) - and most of you probably know me from LJ as lady_akatari (and silveredcrystal). This will be a journal in which I post (surprise, surprise!) icons.My Iconing: I use a freeware program called Paint.NET. It allows me to use layers, transparencies, gradients, some special effects, and a bunch of other cool things. However, it is limited by the whole... well, free issue. It is not as good as Photoshop. I can't do several of the things I've seen done - among them, make and use brushes and textures. For animations, when I have to animate something, I use another freeware program, called unFREEz. Once again, it's limited by the free-ness - a lot more drastically so than Paint.NET is - meaning that I only animate things when I have no choice, and they often come out rather choppily. For Christmas, I intend to ask for Photoshop. >.> My Icons: I prefer making 100x100 pixel square icons. I know that it is possible to have icons of other sizes - I have one such on my LJ, actually - but they don't seem quite as nice to me. I like icons to look pretty. I always put borders on them (whenever I remember; if you notice an icon of mine running around I tend to make icons of things I like (makes sense, right?). I like poetry, books, landscapes, trees, foreign places, fantasy... oh, if you know me you know what I like, and I surprise myself sometimes. Aside from the limitations of the programs (for instance, I will not do random twinkly animation because it will be such a royal pain in the rear to do), I don't do things I don't like. I'm not a fan of movies or TV, generally speaking; I am not terribly fond of pink; I dislike profanity or vulgarity (especially for the sake of profanity or vulgarity); I see no point in tiny text. There may be other things I won't do; I'll add them if I think of them. My Resources: I like using crazy fonts (only where they apply, of course), and am something of a font addict. I get most of my non-standard fonts from dafont.com. As pixel fonts, I use (almost without exception) BM Mini, Grudblitter, and Silkscreen from that site. For other fonts, the sky's the limit. If you ask me what font I used on an icon, I will probably be able to tell you, because I am somewhat addicted to fonts. If I got it from online, I'll link you to it. For images... well, I have a phobia of using things that I might get in trouble for. Most of my images come from stock.xchng. Those that do not are, for the most part, in the public domain. The only exceptions that I know of are (possibly!) any icon bases that come from obsessiveicons, and any icons I make of artwork. Even then, I will not be running around pirating images. Artwork-icons will only be of things that it is okay to use as long as the artist is credited. I get quotes from either ThinkExist or Bartleby, for the most part. Some come from WikiQuote or WikiSource. If they are wrong, I here disclaim all responsibility. My Policy on Credit: I would like to be credited, as crediting is nice, but I am not going to turn into a dragon and devour you if you don't credit me.
Thank you. What I do require is that you tell me you are taking icons. This gives me warm fuzzy feelings of "hurrah, my work has been vindicated!" and joy. Joy and warm fuzzies are good. Besides, if I know what people like, I am more likely to make more of it. Questions?: I have a request post. If you want me to make you an icon, you can ask there.
